Why medieval music?

Passionate about early music, soprano Élodie Bouchard has devoted her studies to furthering this passion. During her two years of master's studies in early music at McGill, she immersed herself entirely in this universe and developed a rigorous search for the most reliable sources, in order to restore this music with a constant concern for historical fidelity. Her journey has led her to explore the 17th century, presenting a recital for voice and lute recorded on the album “Ha! compagnons” in 2020, and embodying the title role in Francesca Caccini's opera “La liberazione di Ruggiero dal Isola d'Alcina”.

Since 2018, she has immersed herself in the medieval world by taking part in the Ensemble Scholastica's many new projects, including contributing to the recording of their album “Saints Inouïs” in 2020. Thanks to her great musicality and her agile, multi-colored voice, she is regularly invited to sing with other Montreal ensembles such as the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre Métropolitain, Ensemble Caprice, SMAM, Les Idées heureuses, Les Méandres, the orchestra of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens and the Bach Festival.
